In the past few years I lost both of my parents. Each had chronic illnesses, but my father passed away quickly and unexpectedly . I was a caregiver for my mother for many years and saw her struggle and felt my own helplessness while she was in pain and suffering and in her passing I had more of an anticipatory grief attached to it. Grief can be such an internal process and Kathi Bakers book really helped in my own process of continuing to grieve for my parents. Her journey with her husband's illnesses, caregiving, Hospitals, struck a chord in me as well . The roller coaster of hope and fear that she experienced was the same that I experienced. Her book is raw and real. It is the real life experience and process that all of us will be a part of in some way or another in our own life.Product details

WILL IT LEAVE A SCAR? A Memoir of living with grief Kathi Baker 9781520821177 Books Reviews
This book is a great blessing for all that have traveled down this road!!! Grief is a journey that takes us to unexpected places. Kathi's story is a gift in that you experience the loss and the mourning with her, but you also come to the light at the end of the tunnel with her as well. Kathi shows us that it takes tremendous strength to accept grief and vulnerability, but it's when we accept it that we can truly start to heal.
A must read! From the first page I was drawn into Kathi's poignant true life story. With such raw emotion, she shared her inspiration of how she continued through some very tough, emotional times. A realization of how much she could actually endure due in large part from the love , support and strength she drew from her loved ones. A true story of fortitude and inspiration we can all celebrate. Hands down I give it 5 stars!
Kathi writes her true life story of loving and losing one husband, then of loving, caring and supporting her next husband through his unbelievable fight with cancer. She shares her battles and hardships, showing that we have an inner strength when we truly need it. I think this is a great book to share with those who are grieving or dealing with hard and sad situations. She offers solid advice in her checklist at the end of her book and importantly she shares…how to accept support from others, even kind strangers.
I could not put this book down! Kathi's writing really brought me into her story and I could feel her emotions through the pages. I believe that everyone handles grief differently and in their own way. This was a very well written, well told story of how one person dealt with hers that could be helpful to people searching for how to deal with their own grief. But, in addition to being about grief, it it also a love story that left me rooting for a happy ending for Kathi & Anson.
Will it Leave a Scar is a inspirational story about what true love looks like. Grief is difficult to deal with and this book reminds us we are not alone in our own stuggles. It made me think about the people in my life like Chuck, who might really be there just to listen. I found myself rooting for Kathi as the issues kept coming. Overall I thought it was a good book, bringing another voice to the table on dealing with grief. I would give it 4.5 stars but that isn't allowed.
Having lived through the deaths of 4 strong father figures in my life as well as many other loved ones, I know all to well the grip grief can have over you and your life. Will it leave a scar is a raw, real look at the tremendous struggles and pain of dealing with loved ones health issues and death. Kathi's descriptions of events were so accurate and detailed I could feel myself in the room with her. It brought back a lot of memories, like she had mentioned; grief popping back up and slapping you in the face. This book is a true gift to others out there who might have been through similar experiences, who are currently going through them, or who will find themselves going through them in the future. It is a great reminder that you are not alone, you are stronger than you think, and that everyone has their own way of working through it. Thank you Kathi for sharing your story.
This book is a hard to put down poignant and honest portrayal of strong and deep love and a free fall through tremendous worry and grief. This is a compelling and touching read taking the reader down the path of introspection and perception to how they might feel in similar life situations. It is an innoculation of sorts that may help one prepare for their own inevitable life trials and tribulations. The author looks at her emotional limits as they are being tested by her grief and supported by love. In the end this book shows that as people we may be capable of dealing with more than we normally expect of ourselves if we can live through the fear and pain. The result can be renewal if not total emotional healing. This is a very human book, and I highly recommend it.
